Thin accretion disks around neutron and quark stars

چکیده
Context. The possibility of observationally discriminating between various types of neutron stars, described by different equations of state of the nuclear matter, as well as differentiating neutron stars from other types of exotic objects, like, for example, quark stars, is one of the fundamental problems in contemporary astrophysics. Aims. We consider and investigate carefully the possibility that different types of rapidly rotating neutron stars, as well as other type of compact general relativistic objects, can be differentiated from the study of the emission properties of the accretion disks around them. Methods. We obtain the energy flux, the temperature distribution and the emission spectrum from the accretion disks around several classes of rapidly rotating neutron stars, described by different equations of state of the neutron matter, and for quark stars, described by the MIT bag model equation of state and in the CFL (Color-Flavor-Locked) phase, respectively. Results. Particular signatures appear in the electromagnetic spectrum, thus leading to the possibility of directly testing the equation of state of the dense matter by using astrophysical observations of the emission spectra from accretion disks.

Can stellar mass black holes be quark stars?
We investigate the possibility that stellar mass black holes, with masses in the range of 3.8M⊙ and 6M⊙, respectively, could be in fact quark stars in the Color-Flavor-Locked (CFL) phase. Depending on the value of the gap parameter, rapidly rotating CFL quark stars can achieve much higher masses than standard neutron stars, thus making them possible stellar mass black hole candidates. Moreover,...

p { margin-bottom: 0.1in; direction: ltr; line-height: 120%; text-align: left; }a:link { } In this paper, the evolution of accretion disks in the post-Newtonian limit has been investigated. These disks are formed around gravitational compact objects such as black holes, neutron stars, or white dwarfs. Although most analytical researches have been conducted in this context in the framework o...
متن کاملEffect of the temperature profile of the accretion disk on the structure of jets and outflows around protostars
Magnetic fields play an important role in creating, driving, and in the evolution of outflows and jets from protostars and accretion disks. On the other hand, the temperature profile of the accretion disks may also affect the structure of the magnetic field and outflows. In this paper, we use the self-similar method in cylindrical coordinates to investigate the effect of the temperature profile...
متن کاملHyperaccretion Disks around Neutron Stars
It is usually proposed that hyperaccretion disks surrounding stellar-mass black holes at an accretion rate of a fraction of one solar mass per second, which are produced during the mergers of double compact stars or the collapses of massive stars, are central engines of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). In some origin/afterglow models, however, newborn compact objects are invoked to be neutron stars rat...
متن کاملQuasi-periodic Oscillations as Global Hydrodynamic Modes in the Boundary Layers of Viscous Accretion Disks
The observational characteristics of quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) from accreting neutron stars strongly indicate the oscillatory modes in the innermost regions of accretion disks as a likely source of the QPOs. The inner regions of accretion disks around neutron stars can harbor very high frequency modes related to the radial epicyclic frequency κ. The degeneracy of κ with the orbital fre...
